Tunica Biloxi Issues of Importance during the 2006 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature

Following are the major issues of interest for the Tunica Biloxi Tribe during the session:

  • The Tunica Biloxi political and governmental relations team was very instrumental in working with Governor Blanco, the Governor's Executive Counsel Terry Ryder, Attorney General Charles Foti and First Assistant Attorney General Nick Gacchasin on resolving very important compact issues. These issues were critical to the successful financing of the hotel, facility and Mari Center expansion. Multiple meetings directly with the Governor and the Attorney General were coordinated by the Tunica Biloxi political and governmental relations team.
  • House Bill 1, the state budget bill, contained numerous items regarding state police gaming division. The Tunica Biloxi political and governmental relations team closely monitored all amendments that could potentially impact Paragon gaming operations.
  • There were no tribal recognition efforts during the 2006 Legislative Session.
  • Tunica Biloxi Day was celebrated at the Capitol on May 17, 2006. Tribal leaders and members were guest of House Speaker Joe Salter and Senate President Don Hines. Chairman Barbry addressed both chambers of the legislature.
