The Tunica Land Claim

What is the Tunica Land Claim?
The Tunica Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana has clearly documented significant portions of land in our state that were taken from the tribe illegally and improperly. To resolve this matter, the Tunica Biloxi Tribe is proposing a simple plan under which the State of Louisiana and the United States Government will justly compensate them for these takings without disturbing the current ownership and use of such lands.

How much property are we talking about?
According to a very professional and historically researched analysis, the land claim area consists of 65,687 acres. These are traditional lands occupied by the Tunica's ancestors and are of great cultural and religious significance to the tribe.

Where is the property?
The property is located in South Central Louisiana in Avoyelles, Rapides, St. Landry and West Feliciana Parishes.

If I have property in the land claim area, will I be affected?
Absolutely not. The Tunica Biloxi Tribe is committed to settling this issue with the state and federal government so that no private or public property owners in the land claim area will be affected. The tribe ahs always been and will remain a good neighbor.

Where can I find out more about the Tunica Biloxi Land Claim?
