On December 19th, the TBIPAC met with re-elected Commissioner of Agriculture, Mike Strain to congratulate him on his recent re-election. While meeting with Commissioner Strain, discussions were held in regards to updates to the Federal Farm Bill and how it could it affect potential future opportunities for the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe.
We are also informed by Commissioner Strain that Louisiana was about to be awarded the first state to become approved by the USDA to grow industrialized hemp, which is anticipated to boost economic development in the future. Other discussions with the Commissioner involved the current status of various crops in Louisiana and also future plans for the department.
