According to The New England Journal of Medicine, intensive contact tracing has led to lower COVID-19 death rates for the Apaches in eastern Arizona. Even though the Apaches are 10 times more likely to be infected with the virus than other people in the state, doctors have been able to use contact tracing to successfully treat ill people before their condition worsened.
Teams of doctors began by asking the infected where they had been, and then eventually asking more detailed questions about who their family members were. New contacts were given rapid testing and those that tested positive were visited by clinicians on a sometimes daily basis.
