Monday, October 2, Paragon Casino Resort, the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana and the Tunica-Biloxi Indian Political Action Committee (TBIPAC) hosted the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff Candidate Debate in Paragon’s Mari Showroom ahead of the upcoming Fall 2023 election.
Qualified candidates who took the podium included incumbent Avoyelles Parish Sheriff David Dauzat (R), Tunica-Biloxi Police Chief Harold Pierite (D), former Louisiana State Trooper Todd “T-Goo” Gaspard (R) and former Deputy Sean Paul Mayeux (No Party). The candidates discussed an array of hot-button issues including their strategies to reduce crime, improve deputy retention, address the current budget and maintain relationships across other Avoyelles Parish departments.
“There is nothing more important than keeping Avoyelles Parish a safe and secure place to live, work and raise your family,” said Paragon General Manager Marshall Ray Sampson, Sr. “As part of our promise to boost this community, Paragon Casino Resort will always effort ways for the public to meet their candidates, so they can cast an informed and confident vote for the future of this parish.”
Coinciding with Paragon’s continued mission to help those in need, those in attendance were asked to bring one canned food item to be donated by TBIPAC to food banks and churches across Avoyelles Parish.
Election Day is Saturday, October 14, 2023. For more information on the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff race or to see other races on the ballot, you can visit the Louisiana Secretary of State’s website.
