A recent Time magazine article pointed out that Native American gaming pulled in $12.7 billion in revenues in 2001. The article noted that those kind of figures place overall Indian gaming among Fortune magazine's 20 most profitable corporations. Those type of earnings exceed the combined holdings of J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., Merrill Lynch, American Express and Lehman Brothers! Chairman, Earl Barbry Clearly our enterprises have become and economic force in the nation's economy. Along with such success comes responsibility. We must become more attentive to the effects of government policy not only in area of of specific Native American issues, but also regarding taxes, health care, infrastructure and gaming issues to name just a few. One of the most important tools in politics is an active political action committee. TBIPAC has provided the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe with a mechanism to raise funds not only from the tribe but also from those who do business with and support the tribe. Those funds are used to support candidates and policies that are favorable to our growth of our enterprises. We also utilize the funds to oppose candidates and policies that attempt to negatively affect us. It is important to note that by forming TBIPAC and actively working to raise funds for TBIPAC we have significantly decreased the pressure to use only tribal funds for political donations. Raising funds from our friends, neighbors, vendors and other business associates is also smart politics as TBIPAC represents a diverse group of donors to political campaigns. As our tribal investments and enterprises grow so will our political strength and social strength and social responsibility. TBIPAC will be one of our tools in meeting these responsibilities. I plan to continue supporting TBIPAC and hope you will join me in this important effort. Sincerely, "Earl J. Barbry, Sr., Tribal Chairman & TBIPAC Chairman"
